Cattle Regain Strength to Round Out Week
Cattle futures are continuing to shrug off the Wednesday overreaction, as contracts are up another 60 cents to $1.52 at midday. Cash trade kicked off on Thursday with a steady/higher note this week, as the South was at $182 in TX and $182-184 in KS on Friday, even to $2...
Corn Settles 1 to 3 Lower on Friday, Still Up 6+ Cents for Week
Corn settled 1 to 3 cents lower on Friday, with nearby May the firmest and May 2025 seeing the biggest day to day net loss. The solid export sales report on Thursday lifted the market for the week, but with all the global uncertainties traders were content to square up...
Cotton Futures Mixed Going into Weekend
Cotton futures settled lower on Friday, by 18 to 39 points. Nearby May is in deliveries, and only one trade was reported for the entire day, at 80.07. Active December was down 33 points and settled just a few ticks off of the intraday low. The outside markets were mixed,...
Soybeans Hesitant to Head Higher on Planting Delays
Soybeans settled 3 ¼ lower to 3 cents higher on Friday, with delivery months out through January 2025 in negative territory and the rest of the 2025 contracts ending the session higher. Nearby May was up 9 cents for the week, or 0.78%. Soymeal dropped $3.90 in the nearby May...
Wheat Rally Continues into Weekend, KC Up 64 ¾ Cents For Week
Wheat bulls continued their assault on the heights (or at least foot hills given the size of the decline in recent months) on Friday. Kansas City HRW continues to lead the way, with gains of 13 ½ to 14 ¼ on Friday and 64 ¾ for the week. Chicago futures...
Hogs Correction Continued on Friday
Lean hogs hit their high for the week on Tuesday and spent the rest of the week fading the early rally. Futures settled $1.00 to $2.525 lower on Friday. USDA’s National Average Base Hog negotiated price was $90.38 in the PM report, up $1.67. Regional prices were not available due...

Wheat futures are trading higher this morning, up 7 to 21 cents in the JULY 2024 futures, marking the 7th day in a row of green numbers with almost $1.00 worth of ground covered on the wheat futures charts.  CHI JLY 2024 CHART BELOW:

KC HRW futures are up the most with the driest parts of western Kansas and Eastern Colorado continuing to miss most of the rains. France and the eastern part of the European Union are still seeing too much moisture which is affecting their planting progress while the southern part of Russia's growing region is getting drier and drier. Managed money (speculative traders) are still buying up wheat futures and working their short positions down which has been amplifying the effect of this weather market. Yesterday's weekly US export sales report came in about as expected, with Corn being above expectations, Soybeans below, and wheat at about the upper third of the expected range.

We might be getting high enough on the wheat futures board for Hedge-to-Arrive contracts to make sense. With CHI SEPT Futures approaching $6.50 it may be worth leaving a sell order to try to lock in a good futures price. Basis levels will likely be lower than what we have been used to at harvest time but something around $0.50 seems like a good possibility. ($6.50 + 0.50 basis = $7.00 coast). Another option could be what is called a "Platinum" contract where the proceeds of selling a call option (not buying as in a minimum price contract) are added to a cash sale. If the futures are trading at or above the call's strike price when the option expires, it would turn into a HTA with the futures price set at the call's strike price. If the futures are trading below the strike price at expiration then the option expires. A little risk involved, but as long as you're okay with a potential HTA and keep grain on hand to back it, it can actually work out to your benefit. If you have any questions please give us a call.

Cash Futures Prices: Chicago JULY is up 11 cents at 632. KC JULY is up 21 at 661 and MPLS JULY is up 7 at 705. US Dollar is trading 0.44 higher at 106.04.
